The LDN was the first spray nozzle for pivots to let irrigators stack multiple pads on one applicator. Double and triple pads on an LDN are not necessary for every pivot installation. But they can be a great help to anyone with a high flow system.

What Happens to the LDN in High Flow Systems?

There are many combinations of pad types in the LDN lineup. Some were designed to distribute water at a specific range of nozzles sizes. This basically means some LDN pads are more efficient when used with a smaller range of flows.

Larger flows can “flood” a single pad, causing turbulence on the pad surface and creating an uneven throw pattern. Double and triple pads divide the water exiting the nozzle into multiple streams –from 33 up to 99– by stripping water away from the outside of the stream.

This lets the LDN distribute water more efficiently along the length of the pivot, eliminating small droplets prone to wind-drift and evaporation and maintaining pattern uniformity.

The blue concave pad distributes water at a 10° angle for a larger distance throw. The black flat pad distributes water straight out at no angle. The green convex pad throws water closer to the ground in a -10° angle.

Since the LDN uses multiple pads, the diameter of coverage you can achieve is incredibly flexible. Each pad has its own trajectory and distance throw, so water isn’t concentrating in one place at any time.

The LDN pads also come in different surfaces with a varying number of grooves. The different grooves help customize the sprinkler’s droplet size and distribution pattern to your needs.
